Biography.
Andrea Shokery, hailed as "dramatically eloquent and musically exquisite" by Opera Today, has thrilled audiences in wide ranging productions from Mozart to Musto. She has been featured with Arizona Opera, Opera Columbus, Kentucky Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, and the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy.
Favorite roles include Violetta (La traviata), Gilda (Rigoletto), Marie (La fille du régiment), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Musetta (La bohème), and Norina (Don Pasquale), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), and Adina (L'elisir d'amore).
In the world of new works, Ms. Shokery created the role of Bobachina in the World Premiere of Musto's The Inspector with the Wolf Trap Foundation. She performed one of the first iterations of Bohmler’s Riders of the Purple Sage as Bess in workshop performances with Arizona Opera and sang the title role of Pasatieri’s La Divina with the Wolf Trap Opera Studio. Ms. Shokery also performed in a Composer Workshop with Daron Hagen at Kentucky Opera, singing Pamela in "Broken Pieces", one of three one-act operas entitled New York Stories.
Ms. Shokery has been a member of the Wolf Trap Opera Studio, Arizona Opera Studio, Des Moines Metro Opera Apprentice Program, Kentucky Opera Studio, and Opera Iowa. She has received prizes from multiple competitions, including the Opera Birmingham Competition, Palm Beach Opera Vocal Competition, Tri-State Vocal Competition, and Irma Cooper/Opera Columbus Vocal Competition. She is also a three-time District Winner in The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Originally from Gahanna, Ohio, she received both her Master's and Bachelor's Degrees from The University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.
